Benefitting Canine Causes

The Annual Northport Dog Parade is a fun yearly tradition. The committee picks a theme each year and prizes are awarded for various categories at the end of the parade. Past themes have included “The Wizard of Oz”, “Alice in Wonderlab, Through the Woofing Glass”, and “Canine Couture”.

Registration and sponsorship fees help cover the expenses incurred to make it possible to hold the parade and most importantly, contribute to local animal shelters and dog care for people who are in need. This year’s beneficiaries include the Great Lakes Humane Society, Cherryland Humane Society, The Fisher Fund, and Leelanau Christian Neighbors (Pet Food).

Announcing The 2025 Grand Marshall: Jeremy Connolly

Jeremy Connolly moved to Northport when her husband, Mike, took a job working with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. For about 9 years she taught Adult Education including when her children were young. In 1992-3, she worked part time at the elementary library in Suttons Bay. She then took a job in her home school district of Northport teaching social studies and primarily being K-12 media specialist from 1993 until she retired in 2005. Both of their children (Erin and Cory) graduated from Northport and she is looking forward to her grandson, Raven, starting kindergarten this year. She is a dog owner and cannot remember a missed dog parade…and still remembers when Mike and their dog Rosie won ‘most disheveled.’ She has devoted time and supplies for doing the ‘Burma Shave’ signs coming into town since they became a ‘thing’.
